HHS report notes decrease in FDA inspections of food factories

A report by HHS' inspector general showed a decline in the FDA's inspections of food-manufacturing plants as well as regulatory actions brought about by those visits between fiscal 2004 and 2008. The release of the findings comes as Congress plans to review a food safety bill that would boost the FDA's food-factory inspection and enforcement authority.
