New York City examines ways to encourage green retrofits

Hearst Tower, the first skyscraper to break ground after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in New York City, also earned the title of the Big Apple's first energy-efficient skyscraper. The 46-story building incorporated the facade of the original 1928 Hearst Corp. headquarters. New York City is now examining other ways to encourage existing buildings to retrofit to green standards.
