Air Force is prepared for new round of base closures, officials say

The Air Force is prepared to close military installations considered "excess infrastructure," including the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station, officials say. "If we do not do that ... we will place the force again under more pressure to put spending into excess capacity when it should go into readiness and modernization," said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz. The Defense Department's Base Realignment Closure Committee is considering mandating a round of base closures.
