DARPA funds research on autonomous learning robots

Andy, a Robot ARM-S, short for Autonomous Robotic Manipulation Software Track, is the latest project at Carnegie Mellon University to receive backing from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Robots of this type are designed to operate independently and learn from their experiences. DARPA is looking for military robots that can work with little human oversight, but the robots could also have applications in domestic duties and even intelligent prosthetics.
