A bipartisan bill being drafted in the Senate could force some large banks to adopt capital requirements that exceed Basel III rules. Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and David Vitter, R-La., are poised to introduce the bill. Karen Shaw Petrou of Federal Financial Analytics has expressed concern about the measure. "I view it as a radical view of how American banks should be restructured that seems to disregard the role of the [Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.] coverage, prudential regulation and the totally different structure of the 2013 economy," Petrou said.
