"17 Day Diet" tries to keep people, metabolism engaged

The book "17 Day Diet" says the plan, which actually includes four 17-day diet cycles that vary what foods are allowed, can help keep people engaged in losing weight. Keri Gans of the American Dietetic Association is skeptical, however, about claims that the diet's calorie-shifting plan will help fool a person's metabolism to avoid weight-loss plateaus.
