Burglary causes patient data breach in N.C.

The health data of around 5,370 patients in North Carolina was compromised as the result of a burglary at the main office of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington. Three laptops containing unencrypted e-mails with the protected information of a small number of patients were stolen. The burglars also had access to paper records, but hospice officials do not know if the burglars looked at them.
