Joint Commission issues Sentinel Event Alert on hospital alarms

A Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert said noise from alarms on medical equipment can lead to "alarm fatigue" among hospital staff and may be linked to at least two dozen patient deaths each year. The commission said hospital officials should go after the problem and train employees on alarm management.
