NCGA: Proposed Tier 3 rules may boost demand for ethanol

The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed Tier 3 sulfur-reduction standard may boost demand for ethanol, which is used by refiners to boost the octane rating of gasoline products, according to the National Corn Growers Association. The refining process strips octane components from fuels, providing an opportunity for increased use of ethanol, NCGA said.
