Registered nurse Jana Uryasz, a patient education specialist at The Nebraska Medical Center, uses Health Literacy Advisor software to help her gauge how much help patients need to understand their diagnoses and treatments. She replaces medical jargon with simple, clear words. To help patients understand their disease processes, Uryasz said, sometimes nurses have to "consider this like 'Dick and Jane' would."
