Scientists study nonmetal approach for converting alkenes

Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are working on a method that uses organic molecules, instead of metals, as the catalyst that turns alkene into a cation radical. The chemistry "isn't going to be commercialized tomorrow," project leader David Nicewicz said. "But for now we can get people thinking about a classic problem in a new way."
