Study finds fecal transplants reduce symptoms in pediatric UC

A small feasibility study using fecal transplantation to treat ulcerative colitis in patients ages 7 to 20 led to symptom remission in more than 75% of patients after one week, with more than two-thirds maintaining remission at one month. Pediatric gastroenterologist Sachin Kunde of Spectrum Health Medical Group said the procedure looks promising. "We believe that the procedure may restore 'abnormal' bacteria to 'normal' in patients with ulcerative colitis," Kunde said.
