Sunshine rules coming in 2014 for docs and drugmakers

The public will gain access beginning in September 2014 to records of payments that drugmakers make to doctors. A study released in February found that about half of doctors didn't know the details of the disclosure rules, and a majority had concerns about payment data being available publicly. The disclosures currently planned by CMS may not provide enough context for the public to understand the research, education and drug development activities involved in drugmakers' interactions with doctors, said Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Senior Assistant General Counsel Marjorie Powell.
