Time-shifted or live, TV is still a water cooler medium

HBO, Netflix and Amazon Prime are failing to exploit the social potential of streaming TV series by not offering tools for users to discuss the content, Jenna Wortham writes. Although live TV is becoming less popular, the concept of "linear television" has staying power, making the need for real-time chat about content essential, according to Alex Iskold, founder and chief executive of social TV application GetGlue.
