Montana has legalized the recovery of meat from deer, elk, moose and antelope hit by vehicles, but recovery of animals such as sheep, bears and bobcats is not allowed. Some observers have raised concerns about animals being intentionally killed for consumption or health issues associated with consuming spoiled or disease-contaminated meat. Authorities will not evaluate the fitness of roadkill for consumption, officials said; that will be left up to individuals.
