Walgreen clinics offer care for chronic diseases

Walgreen retail pharmacies have begun offering chronic-disease assessment, treatment and management from nurse practitioners and physician assistants at more than 330 Take Care clinics. Some critics say the trend toward retail health care further fragments the health care system, but Take Care's chief medical officer says the clinics are coordinating patient care with physicians, medical practices and health systems.
