OEMs join utilities to promote wireless connection standard

Several electronics OEMs and utilities have united to promote a new wireless standard that they see as a promising solution for connecting smart-grid devices and home appliances over remote networks. The companies have formed a coalition -- the Wireless Smart Utility Network Alliance, or Wi-SUN -- to lobby for the coming IEEE.802.15.4g standard, and they plan to launch the Wi-SUN CERTIFIED program this summer.
