Banking system is stronger but more work is needed, Bernanke says

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke highlighted the strides banks have made in strengthening capital levels, while emphasizing that regulators must continue to work with the financial industry to ensure that the banking system remains strong. "Today the economy is significantly stronger than it was four years ago, although conditions are clearly still far from where we would all like them to be," Bernanke said. "It is positive for the recovery that banks are also notably stronger than they were a few years ago."
