Double amputee becomes first to race in superbike championship

Lance Cpl. Murray Hambro of the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment became the first double amputee to participate in the British Superbike Championship last week. "We effectively had to rewrite the rulebook," said Phil Spencer of True Heroes Racing, who worked with Hambro to adapt the bike. "The adaptions that Murray has on the bike to enable him to ride it and replace the controls that the other riders use their feet for have all had to be examined, scrutinied and cleared to pass as safe to be on the track," he said.
