Ill. city council committee advances parking-tax plan

The Chicago City Council Finance Committee has endorsed a plan that would change parking tax from a flat rate to 20% of the fee on weekdays and 18% on weekends. The proposal would increase the cost of premium spots. While some councilors support the plan, others and the hotel industry object, saying the proposal would make parking downtown and overnight at hotels too expensive.
