IRS examines whether free employee food should be taxed

The Internal Revenue Service is investigating whether employees should be taxed for the free food they are served at company cafeterias, experts say. "If [the IRS is] in there auditing, and you're not taxing the meals, they're going to challenge you on it," says Thomas Cryan Jr., an employment-tax lawyer.
