Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has signed legislation that will support the development of an offshore wind farm off the coast of Ocean City. The Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013 will help offset the cost of developing the wind farm by applying a $1.50 monthly surcharge on utility bills. The proposed 200-megawatt wind farm is expected to create an estimated 850 jobs over five years of construction and another 160 jobs upon completion.
