Official: Germany needs $2.6B for a waste repository

The development of a central used-fuel repository will require about $2.6 billion from German nuclear plant operators, said Peter Altmaier, Germany's environment minister. "The cost of dealing with nuclear waste will be borne by those who produced it," he said. "In the end, it's also in the interests of the nuclear operators that we identify a depository."
