Out congressman sees fundraising success in first term

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., the first openly gay member of Congress from New York, raised a healthy $500,000 in the first quarter of 2013, which could deter challengers in his first re-election bid next year, observers say. Maloney, who has a partner of 20 years and three children, entered Congress in January.
