Report recommends Mich. city start with council cuts for savings

Detroit could save $7.4 million if it follows recommendations in a report presented to the city-state Financial Advisory Board, including reducing City Council members' hours and pay to part-time status. The report also recommends cutting councilors down to one employee each in support staff, as opposed to four to eight.
