Researchers increase estimate of U.S. natural gas reserves

The U.S. contained about 2,384 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas at the end of 2012, up 26%, or 486 trillion cubic feet, from the 2010 amount, according to a report from the Colorado School of Mines' Potential Gas Committee. Shale gas resources in the Gulf Coast, Atlantic and Rocky Mountain areas contributed to the increase, the committee said.
