Statewide math competition motivates S.C. students

It may seem like fun and games, but the First in Math online program is helping elementary-school students across South Carolina master addition, subtraction, multiplication, word problems and other math concepts. Students earn points that are then tallied by school and compared with nearly 60 other competing schools in the state. Officials say the point system has motivated students and increased the amount of time they spend honing their math skills.
