SunGard exec: Big Data and data storage are different considerations

Big Data analytics are becoming more important to enterprises, so it's crucial to remember that not all stored data is of equal value, says Michael de la Torre of SunGard Availability Services. "You have all this nonstructured or minimally structured data. There's a lot of it. And it's coming from different sources that you would typically think are outside of the business warehouse," he says. "As such, you need new tools and techniques to get value out of that data. ... Don't just save everything to save everything. That makes very little sense."
