Executives discuss consolidation, passenger amenities

US Airways executives reiterated at an industry conference last week that they are in favor of more consolidation in the airline industry. President Scott Kirby also noted, however, that the carrier could not merge with an airline with a significantly lower cost structure. Meanwhile, executives also discussed the long-term profitability of passenger amenities, such as WiFi, on commercial flights. US Airways Chief Executive Doug Parker noted that in-flight Internet service does not come close to covering its cost at this point.
