Restaurant group objects to Maryland's minimum-wage proposal

Maryland's low-wage and tipped workers would receive a bump in pay under a bill to raise the state's minimum wage, which includes a provision to raise base pay for tipped workers from 50% to 75% of the minimum wage. Advocates say the measure is needed to spur consumer spending and boost the recovery, but opponents including the Restaurant Association of Maryland argue that the move would require drastic measures by eateries and other businesses that could include price increases, job cuts and limits on service.
