Base closings, attrition to cut up to 50,000 DOD jobs

The Pentagon expects to trim its civilian workforce by 40,000 to 50,000 people, primarily through attrition, Undersecretary of Defense Robert Hale said this week. The job cuts will take place over the next five years if lawmakers approve the Pentagon's plan, which involves consolidating health care operations and closing bases.
