Calif. district's wellness policy credited for drop in obesity rate

A revised wellness policy in a California district that curbed the availability of unhealthy snacks in schools and promoted physical activity appears to be paying off. Since the policy was adopted last spring, data show that obesity rates have declined by 3.2%. Prior to the adoption of the policy, it was reported that about 40% of students were overweight or obese.
