CNG vehicle fires pose more risks for firefighters

Vehicles running on compressed natural gas could pose a greater risk for firefighters because CNG burns much faster than gasoline, observers say. CNG vehicle fires require a different response from firefighters. During a recent CNG truck fire in Indiana, firefighters realized they needed to change their approach after seeing the vehicle's placards. While training is constantly updated to include dealing with new vehicle fuel sources, firefighters often rely on guidebooks to learn how to approach alternative-fuel fires.
