Crapo says regulators, not lawmakers, should set capital rules

Capital standards for financial institutions should be set by regulators, not by lawmakers, says Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho, the ranking Republican member of the Senate banking committee. The view is opposite that of a bill filed by Sens. David Vitter, R-La., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, that would increase capital requirements. The two say capital levels set by regulators are too low.
