La. residency program boosts number of primary care physicians

The Alexandria Family Medicine Residency Program in Louisiana has had 81 graduates, with almost 60 of those physicians now practicing in Louisiana and 17 working in rural parishes. Program director Brian Elkins said the residency is popular because it is the only program in the area and offers residents a wide range of experiences. The program received almost 1,200 applicants for six spots next year.
