Miss. transit authority struggles for funds to operate, convert buses

The Coast Transit Authority in southern Mississippi is struggling to find long-term and sustainable funding for its mass transit system, according to Executive Director Kevin Coggin. Part of the CTA's larger plan to earn funds is to use improved technology by adding new vans that feature alternative fuels such as propane autogas and by converting buses to hybrid electric diesel engines. The approach gives the CTA a 20% savings on fuel, Coggin said.
