Reflexology affects pain levels, tolerance, study shows

Patients treated with reflexology reported 40% less pain and 45% greater duration of pain tolerance, University of Portsmouth researchers reported in the Journal of Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice. Researcher Carol Samuel said reflexology may work the same way as acupuncture by telling the brain to release chemicals that lessen pain signals.
