Materials that self-assemble, ranging from nanoscale on up, are the objective of Project Cyborg at Autodesk's Bio/Nano/Programmable Matter Group. "We're trying to explore beyond the inert world and see how we can apply what has been learned from the design industries back into organic life," said group director Carlos Olguin. The future upshot of so-called 4D printing could be furniture that puts itself together, disease-hunting injectable nano-robots or even buildings.
