Russia may use ground hubs to connect on domestic flights

The Communications and Mass Media Ministry in Russia is looking to construct Internet transmission stations in the country so planes don't have to rely on satellite technology. "We are considering options to transmit data to the aircraft from a base station on the ground, which, in simple words, will beam the data about 100 kilometers up. The service will be available on busy air routes," said Nikolai Nikiforov, communications and mass media minister.
