Visual identification technology gains visibility in retail

Robots that use cameras to capture store layouts and then scan the shelves for mistakes are already a reality and were on display at Retail's BIG Show in January. As technology improves, cameras and scanners are likely to become an increasingly integral part of store operations. For instance, cameras installed for store security will likely be called on to also alert store managers when empty shelves need to be replenished.
