Windows XP, we hardly knew ye

Microsoft is preparing to pull the plug on Windows XP and will end its support and security updates for the venerable operating system in April 2014. About 38% of Web-connected PCs still run XP, so the accumulation of unpatched vulnerabilities could pose a threat to websites. "[I]magine even a small percentage of those 38 percent of PCs being harnessed for distributed denial of service attacks," writes Scott Gilbertson.
