FCC rules seek to ease pole installations of broadband gear

The Federal Communications Commission has signed off on regulations that are designed to make it easier for broadband providers to install equipment on utility poles. Utilities will be required to allow telecom companies to attach vital hardware to poles within 148 days of request, or 178 days in the case of wireless broadband. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski called the move a "major step in reducing barriers to broadband deployment."
