A top teacher tells why languages should be part of all instruction

A Maryland French teacher is leading a pilot program that introduces elementary school students to foreign languages. Sherri Harkins, who recently was chosen Teacher of the Year by the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, says foreign language lessons should be included in science, technology, engineering and math programs. "In a time frame where everything is global -- politics, education, commerce -- you can't truly participate in a global marketplace without it," she said.
