Syria peace plan still alive, insists Annan

Violence in Syria still could subside by Thursday morning despite the failure yesterday of the government to withdraw troops and weaponry from population centers in accordance with a United Nations-brokered peace plan, said Kofi Annan, UN-Arab League envoy to the country. "The plan is very much alive," said Annan as pressure rose on Russia to back stronger international action. "If you were to take it off the table, what would you replace it with?”
