Bolt issue means opening of Calif.'s $6.4B Bay Bridge is uncertain

Until the reason for the bolt failure on California's $6.4 billion San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and a solution to ensure its seismic safety are determined, the opening timetable for the bridge is "guesswork," said Steve Heminger, executive director of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. It could take weeks or months to devise a solution to the broken bolts, said Stephen Maller, deputy director of the California Transportation Commission. Several possible fixes are being considered.
