FIO disaster-loss estimates would pose challenges, PCI official says

The White House's budget proposal calls for the Federal Insurance Office to provide exposure estimates immediately after disasters, which would be challenging, observers say. The FIO will face "real-world limitations" in obtaining information to arrive at such estimates, said PCI's Dave Snyder. "Insurers need realistic, confidential and uniform data collection after major events, and we hope that FIO can play a helpful role, but we don't see it substituting for the states," Snyder said.
