Facebook's Home application is the result of a major internal reboot that is rooted in Mark Zuckerberg's disastrous decision in 2010 to build a universal Facebook app for any smartphone. The buggy result led Facebook to restructure its operations, insert mobile engineers into all its product teams and find a new way to serve its mobile users, Jessi Hempel writes. "I can't overstate how much we had to retool the whole company's development processes," Zuckerberg says.
