Investors, entrepreneurs wrangle over benefit-corporation rules

A dozen states have adopted benefit-corporation rules that give legal cover to entrepreneurs who want to put social benefits ahead of their bottom line. Still, efforts in states such as Colorado have run into trouble, with some saying the newcomers are using weaker legislative approaches. "This just muddies the waters and will lower the standards across the board," says lawyer Kyle Westaway.
