Investors might push for bank breakups, analysts say

Shareholders of major banks might call for them to be broken up if their valuations remain depressed as compared with their smaller, more focused peers, according to a report by Wells Fargo analysts. "Given the challenges posed by increasing regulation, higher capital requirements, and well-publicized trading/market challenges, it's not surprising that investors remain reluctant to assign a 'full' valuation to the universal banks," the report said.
