New OTC derivatives-clearing mandate to hit some firms

In the U.S., the second phase of mandatory clearing of over-the-counter derivatives goes into effect in June. Market participants warn that many smaller firms might have to suspend their use of OTC derivatives because they will struggle to sign up with a futures commission merchant. The situation could prompt some to shift to interest-rate-swap futures, according to market participants.
